Program learning outcomes

The proposed program learning outcomes are explicitly aligned with the PELSB Standards for Effective Practice. 1. The candidate understands how alignment with a student’s cultural background is necessary to make meaningful connections that enable the construction of knowledge & acquisition of skills. 2. The candidate knows how to collaborate with students to create a welcoming & inclusive classroom community that reflects the diversity of student cultures in the design of the physical & virtual space, expectations, & organizational routines that represent the needs of all students. 3. The candidate understands how to design, adapt, & select appropriate assessments to address specific learning goals & individual differences. 4. The candidate creates or adapts lessons, unit plans, learning experiences, & aligned assessments based on Minnesota’s academic standards, or if unavailable, local, national, or international discipline-specific standards. 5. The candidate collaborates with students to design & implement culturally relevant learning experiences, identify their strengths, & access family & community resources to develop their areas of interest. 6. The candidate actively seeks professional, community, & technological resources, within & outside the school, as supports for analysis, reflection, & problem solving. 7. The candidate understands the importance of engaging in culturally affirming, reciprocal communication with families about student development, learning, & performance. 8. The candidate understands that knowledge creation, ways of knowing, & teaching are social & cultural practices shaped by race & ethnicity, often resulting in racially disparate advantages & disadvantages. 9. Candidates will demonstrate writing at the advanced level for topics & intentions used in communication of educational purposes.
