University Policy

All students must meet the requirements stated in the Undergraduate Degrees, Minors, and Credit-Bearing Certificates Policy and the Credit Requirements Policy, including the following:

UMD residency credit requirements for undergraduate degrees include a minimum of 30 semester credits; 15 credits of the last 30 credits; and half of upper-division (3xxx-level or higher) credits that satisfy major requirements.
Undergraduate degree program requirements also include completion of the Liberal Education Program and no more than 20 S/N semester credits.
The University of Minnesota (UMN) GPA required for graduation is a minimum of 2.00, which is cumulative and includes only University of Minnesota coursework from all campuses. Each UMD major, minor, and certificate requires a minimum program GPA of 2.00, which includes transfer coursework meeting requirements for the academic program.
If pursuing multiple programs that include overlapping coursework, students must complete a minimum number of non-overlapping credits for each additional program.

This major requires a second field of study (e.g., minor, major, degree).
Students may earn a BA or a minor in German Studies, but not both.

Global experience is a UMD goal for all students, and international study is encouraged. In-depth study of language and culture in a host country vastly improves language proficiency and intercultural competence. Talk with a faculty advisor in German Studies to explore academic options for fulfilling your degree requirements through study abroad.
