University Policy

UMD residency credit requirements for undergraduate degrees include a minimum of 30 semester credits; 15 credits of the last 30 credits; and half of upper-division (3xxx-level or higher) credits that satisfy major requirements.
Undergraduate degree program requirements also include completion of the Liberal Education Program and no more than 20 S/N semester credits.
The University of Minnesota (UMN) GPA required for graduation is a minimum of 2.00, which is cumulative and includes only University of Minnesota coursework from all campuses. Each UMD major, minor, and certificate requires a minimum program GPA of 2.00, which includes transfer coursework meeting requirements for the academic program.
If pursuing multiple programs that include overlapping coursework, students must complete a minimum number of non-overlapping credits for each additional program.

Program Requirements

This major does not require a second field of study (e.g., minor, major, degree).
The program requirements presuppose placement into (1) BIOL 1011; (2) CHEM 1153 and CHEM 1154, which require the prerequisites of high school chemistry and a math ACT of 24 or higher, appropriate Accuplacer score, or college algebra; and (3) MATH 1296, which requires the prerequisite of a math ACT of 27 or higher, appropriate Accuplacer score, or precalculus.
