Program description
At the core of the communication discipline is a concern for the relationship between symbolic action (speaking, writing, etc.) and social change. This communication program emphasizes the breadth and diversity of the communication field with an integrated focus that spans social scientific and cultural/historical methodologies. Students develop conceptual and research competence in the areas of interpersonal communication, mass media, and rhetorical theory and practice.
Departmental Honors requirements: Candidates must be communication majors with a 3.30 GPA in all communication courses and 3.30 U of MN GPA overall. Students write an honors-quality paper sponsored by a communication faculty member and approved by two additional communication faculty. Candidates apply before the end of the first four weeks of their senior year. Contact the department head or faculty advisor for more information.
