University Policy
All students must meet the requirements stated in the Undergraduate Degrees, Minors, and Credit-Bearing Certificates Policy and the Credit Requirements Policy, including the following:

UMD residency credit requirements for undergraduate degrees include a minimum of 30 semester credits; 15 credits of the last 30 credits; and half of upper-division (3xxx-level or higher) credits that satisfy major requirements.
Undergraduate degree program requirements also include completion of the Liberal Education Program and no more than 20 S/N semester credits.
The University of Minnesota (UMN) GPA required for graduation is a minimum of 2.00, which is cumulative and includes only University of Minnesota coursework from all campuses. Each UMD major, minor, and certificate requires a minimum program GPA of 2.00, which includes transfer coursework meeting requirements for the academic program.
If pursuing multiple programs that include overlapping coursework, students must complete a minimum number of non-overlapping credits for each additional program.

Program Requirements

This major does not require a second field of study (e.g., minor, major, degree). If students do choose to declare a second field of study, students cannot declare the Biochemistry BA or the Chemistry minor. To graduate with two or more academic programs, students must complete a specific number of non-overlapping credits in accordance with the Credit Requirement Policy.
Students earning a Biochemistry BS degree who wish to have their degree certified by the American Chemical Society must complete at least 130 hours of additional laboratory work through participation in undergraduate research with a comprehensive written report and/or through additional chemistry laboratory courses.
