BIOL 3201 - Genetics and Race: The Science and Consequences of Eugenics (3 Cr.) Race, Power and Justice
Course description
Eugenics is a pseudoscientific field prominent in the first half of the 20th century that attempted to describe complex behavioral and physiological traits in humans in simple genetic terms for the purpose of guiding human reproduction to improve genetic quality. This course will address the scientific claims of eugenics as well as its application and societal consequences, especially in the US. We will critically evaluate current eugenics-related claims related to intelligence, behavior, and differences among races.
