Course description

This course provides students with an introduction to Indigenous worldviews and knowledge systems as they pertain to Indigenous stewardship and environmental practices. This course will focus on Indigenous peoples of Turtle Island. Topics in this course may include but are not limited to: Indigenous languages; Indigenous conceptualizations of sovereignty as it relates to land and stewardship; creation and story as they pertain to environmental systems and Indigenous worlds; Indigenous temporalities; Indigenous spatialities / geographies; Indigenous societal organization with a particular focus on land, water, plants, animals, bugs, stars, rocks, soils, and earth-systems; and / or land as pedagogy.
